Priorities

Reasonable, Realistic & Responsive

As your candidate for the CCPS School Board, these will be my priorities -

Academics & Instruction

  • Recruitment and retention of high quality teachers and personnel

  • Provide robust professional development, training, coaching, and mentorship for teachers and personnel

  • Expansion of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for Reading and Mathematics instruction and for Behavior at all schools

  • Preparation and training for implementation of the Virginia Literacy Act (in school year 2024-2025) 

  • Expansion of Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and students' credential opportunities based on workforce needs

  • Implementation of targeted strategies and recommended actions based on School Quality Profiles and Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Academic Reviews

School Safety & Security

  • Implementation of proactive best practices (County-wide) to create and maintain safe and secure school campuses and workplaces

  • Continuous preparation, training, and practice of all safety and security procedures at each school and workplace facility

  • Support for teachers, administrators, and adults to build trusted relationships with students, parents, and families to create safe, positive school cultures 

  • Expansion of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for Behavior at all schools

  • Continue utilization of armed School Resource Officers (SROs) in all schools and continue utilization of School Security Officers (SSOs) in all secondary schools (armed when qualified)

  • Expand positive, proactive working relationships with local Law Enforcement and other community agencies to keep CCPS’ students, staff, schools, and workplaces safe

Student Support Services

  • Expansion of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for Behavior at all schools

  • Implementation of student wellness goals and strategies developed by CCPS’ School Health Advisory Board (SHAB) in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and social and emotional well-being

  • Support for teachers, administrators, and adults to build trusted relationships with students, parents, and families to implement school-based strategies which address school safety, teen mental health, and substance use 

  • Utilize results from the 2022 CCPS Youth Risk Behavior Survey to educate students, teachers, parents, and community members regarding proposed targeted interventions in the areas of student nutrition, physical activity, and social and emotional well-being 

  • Expansion of networked community and area agencies who partner with CCPS and parents to provide services to students and families in need due to situations including mental and physical health issues, substance abuse concerns, homelessness, disciplinary situations, family dynamics, and safety concerns  

Recruitment and Retention

  • Prioritize viable, competitive salary ranges and pay scales for teachers and all employees based on the current Classification and Compensation Study

  • Utilization of a variety of recruitment strategies to secure high quality teachers, staff, and personnel

  • Provide robust professional development, mentorship, training, coaching, and apprenticeships for teachers and personal

  • Continue utilization of Employee Appreciation programs, recognitions, and incentives to enhance job satisfaction and employee retention

Planning for Future Growth

  • Coordination with officials from Culpeper County and the Town of Culpeper to project upcoming enrollments at all CCPS schools 

  • Collaboration with professional agencies to analyze data and provide maximum use proposals for all CCPS schools

  • Continue proactive work with the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors to plan for CCPS Capital Improvements - all within the confines of budget limitations

  • Recruitment and retention of high quality teachers and personnel based on upcoming enrollments and local workforce data

  • Solicit input from the Culpeper community regarding CCPS’ strategic planning

  • Provide regular updates to the Culpeper community regarding CCPS’ plans for future growth
